Checklist Before You Host That Halloween Party

All Hallows’ Eve
It’s Halloween time and almost everyone is going all out. I’ve put together a few must haves before your party. But first, here’s a little history of Halloween.

Halloween is a commemoration of the dead. A celebration of the conquering of fear and the souls victory over death.  There are arguments that Halloween which is a derivation from the word “All Hallows Eve” is originally a Christian event while some say it is the Celtic Samhain tradition. Either way, the end of October is considered fitting because it is a time of “dying in nature”.

The carved Jack O Lantern is meant to be a representation of the souls of the dead.
According to the Christian minister Prince Sorie Conteh as quoted on Wikipedia “it was traditionally believed that the souls of the departed wandered the earth until All Saints’ Day, and All Hallows’ Eve provided one last chance for the dead to gain vengeance on their enemies before moving to the next world. In order to avoid being recognized by any soul that might be seeking such vengeance, people would don masks or costumes to disguise their identities”.[89]

That said, religion and culture just like language is in no way exempt from external influences of both the times and environment. It adapts and remoulds itself as it goes along.

When planning a Halloween party, a lot of Event Creators and planners tend to focus on the Costumes and Decor alone. But, there are a few other pertinent poins to focus on. Like:

  • Music
  • Food
  • Drinks.
